UPDATES FROM MISSION

Recently the Mystic Congregational Church hosted a “Mission Sunday” with Chris George, the executive director of IRIS in New Haven, as the guest preacher. Chris has a long history of helping resettle refugees and is a knowledgeable thought provoking speaker. The service was recorded and saved on both the church’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.

IRIS requests all volunteers who will be in contact with refugee families participate in online training; details re future dates and links will be provided as soon as IRIS posts them.

CALVARY AFGHANISTAN REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT MISSION

Our Team update Zoom calls will continue on a bi-weekly basis at 5p.m. View the events calendar for meeting days. If you are not on the team email list and would like to be please contact Kate and Terri to have your name added. Zoom link for the bi-weekly call(s) can be found in the weekly email update. We look forward to seeing everyone and catching up!

The Start Fresh board has formalized the unwritten requirement that any volunteers who are in direct contact with Start Fresh-sponsored families be vaccinated. They keep a confidential file of such volunteers' vaccination status so please forward a photo or scan of your vaccination card to startfreshct@gmail.com (if you meet in person with family members). All of the Start Fresh family members (except the toddlers under 5 years of age) have been vaccinated. And, of course, please remember to wear masks whenever working directly with any of the family members. Test kits and masks have now been ordered for both families as well.

Here are some other things you can do if you want to support Start Fresh's work.

  1. Sign up for Start Fresh's emails, using the form at the bottom of their website. Forms for the confidentiality agreement and link to background check can also be found under the “resources” tab on their website.

  2. Let Terri Brennan or Kate Robins (contact info below) know you're interested so they can add you to our Calvary Afghanistan email update list
