Dear Members and Friends of Calvary,

The breath of God’s Spirit moved through the life of Calvary Church during the past months. Through the efforts of scores of the faithful, that Spirit spoke to the Rev. Gillian Barr. And in the Spirit, she accepted the call to be the next Rector of this parish by the sea. Prayer accompanied every step of the path to this call.

This Sunday we will celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, the moment when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples gathered in Jerusalem. This great wind of God propelled them into the city squares to proclaim the Gospel of Christ to people who became astonished and transformed.

In the weeks ahead we will continue to pray for your next Rector and for the people of Calvary, knowing that God’s Spirit will continue to move through this community.

Many blessings,
Norman

A Message from Calvary's New Rector

The Rev. Gillian R. Barr

I am extremely honored to have been called to be the next rector of Calvary Church. I am excited to serve a parish with such a wonderful combination of gifts: a love of the best of Anglican worship and music and a passion for sharing it with others, care and concern for children and families, active outreach ministries with those near and far, generous hospitality, and the desire to continue to grow in your faith. Your Transition teams and Vestry have been wonderful ambassadors, and I look forward to getting to know and love you all. I can’t wait until I join you in Stonington. Until then, to borrow from the letter to the Ephesians, 'I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love towards all the saints, and for this reason I do not cease to give thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.' (Ephesians 1:15-16)

The Rev. Gillian Barr

June Porch Party.jpg

This is the first in a series of gatherings at parishioners’ homes this summer.  A relaxing evening to get to know each other better.  The parameters are simple: all events are held outside (or in an outdoor structure, in case of inclement weather), bring the kids, yard games and a simple munchie to share.  Pack your cooler with whatever your family likes to drink and reusable dishes/glassware.  Hosts provide the venue and tables.

 Hope to see you there!!!

Future dates & locations to be announced

Tom Verde organized a visit to see Hill-Stead’s world-class collection of French Impressionist paintings and fine art, exquisite decorative arts and handsome antiques. These are on display in a 1901 Colonial Revival house, designed by one of the country’s first female architects, Theodate Pope Riddle.
