Holy Eucharist, Rite I at 8 AM
Holy Eucharist, Rite II at 10 AM

Dear members and friends of Calvary:

I have had the joy this week of meeting with parents of Calvary’s young people. Brenda Hultgren and Stephanie Spelman, both parents and church school leaders, and I prepared for our coming Youth Sunday, June 2. The preacher at both 8 and 10 will be Nellie Horvath, soon to be a graduate of Stonington High School and this coming fall to be a freshman at Salve Regina University in Newport. Nellie will also lead a chorus of Calvary children in a special youth anthem, accompanied on the piano by Tsegaye Janat. Our Calvary children will take on many of the worship leadership roles at the 10 a.m. service.

This service celebrates the young people among us. We also give thanks for the parents and church school teachers so dedicated to our children’s growth “into the full stature of Christ.”

The cover of our Sunday bulletin this week will display this prayer:

God our Father, you see your children growing up in an
unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways
give more life than the ways of the world, and that following
you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to
take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance
for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you,
and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Many blessings,

10am, June 2

Join us at the 10am service on June 2 when Calvary's Sunday school marks the end of the school year, and let the kids take over! The children will be leading us in this service, with Nellie Horvath as our guest “preacher”. The celebration will close with a festive coffee hour.

Calvary Film Festival

Tuesday Evenings at 7pm

As part of the Adult Christian Education program, Calvary Church offers carefully curated films to be shown in the Parish Hall (unless otherwise noted), free of charge.

Next film: June 4, 2019

The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming: The lighter side of Russian interference in our democracy! A Russian submarine runs aground near a small New England town, and it's up to Lt. Rozanov (Alan Arkin) as the Russians' second-in-command to covertly secure a towboat to avoid an international confrontation. When he hooks up with residents such as Walt Whittaker (Carl Reiner) and the police chief (Brian Keith), all hell breaks loose. This classic comedy earned three Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture.

June Porch Party.jpg

This is the first in a series of gatherings at parishioners’ homes this summer.  A relaxing evening to get to know each other better.  The parameters are simple: all events are held outside (or in an outdoor structure, in case of inclement weather), bring the kids, yard games and a simple munchie to share.  Pack your cooler with whatever your family likes to drink and reusable dishes/glassware.  Hosts provide the venue and tables.

 Hope to see you there!!!

Future dates & locations to be announced

The 1847 Pins are in...

The purpose of the 1847 Society of Calvary Church is to recognize with gratitude those members of the parish who provide or intend to provide a future financial benefit to support the mission of Calvary Church. With this objective in mind, the Church is offering a lapel pin to each parishioner who qualifies for such recognition.

Information regarding the Calvary Church Endowment, Planned Giving and the 1847 Society can be found in pamphlets located at the back of the Church, in the Parish Hall, in the Parish Office or on the Church website. Please let us know if you have additional questions regarding making a future gift to Calvary Church. Participation is open to all and all gifts are welcome.
