My Dear Friends,

As I write this last note to Calvary Church, I am filled with gratitude for the love and hospitality you have shown me and my family. You opened your lives to me and I have been touched by the many personal stories you shared with me. Every Sunday service was a joy-filled one where I felt nurtured and encouraged by our common participation in worship of our God. Getting to know the many ministries of Calvary Church filled me with great admiration and hope of your future in the next phase of God’s call upon you with the calling of a new rector.

Continue to do what you are doing, be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit in the coming months to hear how God may be shaping you to reflect His light brighter in Stonington and beyond. I know you will be a vibrant community for any priest who is looking to serve and partner with God and his children for God’s redemptive work on earth.

Thank you for the lovely farewell coffee hour you organized for Milind and I this past Sunday. I now have some beautiful paintings of Calvary Church in sizes large, medium and small! The three different angles of the three paintings will remind me just how beautifully different and yet one body the people at Calvary are. I know I go with many prayers knitted into every stitch of the prayer shawl you gave me.

Know that you will always have a special place in my heart and know that you are in my prayers.

In Christ,
Ajung Sojwal

Abundant blessings & best wishes.

Note from Wardens

Dear Parish,

Thank you for joining us on Sunday, February 17th for Ajung’s final services with us at Calvary. At coffee hour, we gave her and Milind a lovely farewell full of gratitude and best wishes as she begins a new chapter in her ministry as full-time Rector for St. George’s Episcopal Church, Hempstead, NY.

As you know, Reverend Norman Macleod has agreed to serve as a part-time interim Priest in Charge until our new full-time Rector is called. Many of you may have met Norman, as he has called Calvary Church his home of worship since retiring to Stonington about 6 months ago. Norman officially starts with Calvary Church on March 1stand will be leading the both services on March 3rd. Please join us welcoming Norman, and his wife Elizabeth, at coffee hour following the 10AM service.

Also, on Sunday, March 3rd, at both the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM services, joining Norman during the sermon will be Barbara Loftus of the Recruitment Team and John Groton of Discernment Team. They will be sharing with us views their views on “Our community of Faith -Moving forward together” and offer a perspective of discernment from a parishioner’s point of view.

Over the next several weeks, Calvary House will be used by the Transition Team, and then the Vestry as they continue to identify our next Rector. We ask that you please respect their privacy, as well as their need for confidentiality, during this time. Please do continue to pray for all our work of discernment as we listen for God’s intention for us, for our parish, and our next Rector.

On Sunday March 24th, Bishop Laura Aherns will be joining us for worship at a combined 9:00 AM Rite II service. There will be a coffee hour immediately following the 9:00am Service at which Bp. Laura will host a question and response session. Please make every effort to join us that day.

Lastly, while it is exciting that there is so much happening on campus, the activity of the upcoming weeks may cause overlaps with our shared space. We ask that all groups contact the office for scheduling purposes so that we can minimize any conflicts.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Betsy & Jennifer

The Gift of Joy and Wonder

Turning in Lent Toward the Glory of Creation

Wednesday Evenings in Lent: March 13 to April 10

In the language of the Bible, the word “repent” means to “turn.” Calvary’s Lenten study this year will turn toward beauty, awe and wonder, led by the Rev. Norman MacLeod. These hours will be dedicated to remembering, seeing, learning about and celebrating God’s Earth, of which we are made. We will explore and celebrate the glory of God as we see and know it in Stonington and beyond.

The study will begin Wednesday, March 13 at 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall, beginning with a simple Lenten meal of soup and bread. Each session will close before 8 p.m. Each week will have a theme.

March 13 – Creation
March 20 – Earth
March 27 – Water
April 3 – Air
April 10 – Fire

Sign-up sheets for participation will be available next Sunday, February 24.

Dear Sisters & Brothers of Calvary Church,

Wonderful News!
Mark your calendars!

I am so pleased to announce that on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. we will inaugurate a new organ recital series featuring the world’s most renowned artists! Thanks to the generosity of The Miller Foundation, my hope for the establishment of the McIvor Organ Distinguished Artist Series has become reality. This signature Calvary event will take place annually in May, and feature organists from all over the globe. To inaugurate our series, I’ve invited one of America’s brightest stars, Nathan Laube, Professor of Organ at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Nathan has taken the national and international organ scenes by storm, succeeding in ways far beyond his years. His technical and musical prowess is simply astonishing. What a joy it will be to welcome him here!

That said, many, many persons will want to attend this grandiose event. So, before we go public, we’ll need to get our own seats reserved. The event is free to the public, with free-will offerings gladly accepted. Tickets will not be sold, but we will take seating reservations. It would be a shame for any of us to be turned away, so please, call or email the church office and get your seats reserved immediately. Next Friday we will go public, and reservations from far and wide will roll in fast. Don’t wait too long to reserve your place to hear this brilliant artist perform!
